  1. A digital thermometer
  2. Antiseptic solution and ointments
  3. Plaster and bandages for bruises
  4. Cotton or cotton pads
  5. Ibuprofen and pain killers
  6. Anti-diarrhoea tablets

1. A digital thermometer
A digital thermometer can be used to monitor fevers and to determine if you should need serious medical help. This is particularly useful in places where dengue fever is a problem or in case of an extremely cold climate.

2. Antiseptic solution and Ointments
Before you cover the wound with the bandage you must wash it with some antiseptic solution like Dettol or Savlon to remove all the debris and kill the germs and then apply ointment to heal the wound faster. These ointments are good for treating infections to avoid from becoming bigger problems.

3. Plasters and bandages for bruises
These are an absolute essential in any basic first aid kit. The most common form of minor injury is a cut or a scratch, so it is a good idea to carry a few of these in a variety of sizes like a few of the small, round ones for covering insect bites. In case you plan to be doing trekking on your travels then some blister plasters are a good idea.

4 Cotton or cotton pads
In the case of bleeding wounds, it is necessary to use cotton instead of any random cloth to stop bleeding as it might cause more infection. So, keeping a fresh bundle of sterile cotton and using it with antiseptic, to clean the wound is a must. It’s soft and non-pricky and would help to clean the wound with ease.

5. Ibuprofen and pain killers
Ibuprofen is a must amongst all the medicines to carry while traveling. It is a useful anti-inflammatory drug to control swelling in case your ankle is twisted. It also helps with body aches and pains. You may carry sprays as well in case of body aches while trekking or hiking. You can also stock up some cold relief tablets if traveling to a cold country.

6. Anti-diarrhoea tablets
These tablets are important in case of an unfortunate stomach problem. A change in food habits and bacterial contamination can lead to diarrhea. Diarrhea is the body's natural way of flushing bacteria. Keep a tablet handy in case you have problems with transportation or places where you can’t access your kit.

Apart from these, you may also include a few digestive tablets, sanitizer, wipes, mosquito roll on, etc as well while traveling. Small ziplock bags are best for packing and are waterproof in case something leaks. Avoid packing heavy glass bottles or liquids that may leak, travel-sized bottles are advisable. Treat your first aid liquids just as you treat your toiletries and pack them safely.

That’s pretty much about it for your first aid box, with these items, you’re good to go. Have a great backpacking adventure.
