Standing tall, at a height of 567 meters, the monastery of the prophet Elijah is a prominent example of custom and classic Cycladic architecture. The destination becomes more adventurous and enjoyable as you trek up the trail to reach there. On the way, you will be welcomed by many flowery paths(wildflowers, but gives a good feel)and with every step moving high, the panoramic view of the island will become phenomenal. 

Before you reach the monastery there are some chapels on the sides of the way that are worth visiting. Small and cute is the only precise way to describe them. You may also get a little distracted by the sweet tintinnabulation(sound of the church bell)sound coming from the bells of the bell tower, it is so tantalizing and enriching. 

The prophet Elijah monastery has a profound history, at its zenith, it was one of the most wealthiest monasteries, which also provided education and cultural schooling to the early greeks. The Monastery has a museum that displays a collection of rare hand scripts and ecclesial items from the middle ages. Reaching the monastery is via two ways, either Pyrgos or Fira. Though while travelling through Fira you may not find any conveyance to travel, but via Pyrgos, you may find certain buses and taxis to move ahead or back to your hotels.

Oia

Oia or la as pronounced by the locals is the northern-west town of Thira, the Greek Mainland. Overlooking the volcanic cliffs Oia is considered to be one of the most romantic and gorgeous islands in the whole of Europe.
